Malaga Carnival 2026

An eminently popular festival that precedes Lent, is unique in Málaga for its multicultural, colorful, and spontaneous nature. Celebrations take place both in the Historic Center and in the rest of the city's neighborhoods, which host hundreds of recreational activities during Málaga's warm winter.

The festival, sponsored by the Citizens' Carnival Foundation, begins in Málaga with gatherings of singing groups, murgas (a group of street musicians), comparsas (comparisons), quartets, and choirs at the Cervantes Theater. The competition brings together groups from all over the province as well as other parts of Andalusia. Gastronomy also plays an important role in the prelude. Cabbage, casseroles, rice dishes, stews... each neighborhood organizes its own tasting, which is a must for Carnival songs.

Finally, Carnival takes place on the streets the week before Ash Wednesday, a week that ends on the beaches of La Malagueta with the burial of the anchovy.
